WeWantPeaceI wish to take you on a journey.  This is story that has impacted me greatly and has moved me deeply.  It is about a dream and a big prayer.  For Peace.  Peace For The Whole Wide World.  Will you join me?

Part 1:  How it all began.

We Want Peace

I was watching a you tube video that my sister posted on Facebook about a Yoga For Peace Project by Baron Baptiste.  This particular video had a song playing in the background that really struck something inside of me.  The song was WE WANT PEACE, by Emmanuel Jal.  The video mentioned the song and the artist and something inside of me called out to want more.  So began my journey.

I found myself at You Tube and the first video I saw was his We Want Peace video.  Wow!  I felt so alive watching it.  Actually, every single time I am listening to this song I feel so alive and free.  It makes me wanna scream and shout, and somehow (song after song) it still brings joyful tears to my eyes too.   Emmanuel Jal sings, “I am looking for some people who are looking for peace!  Now we can send mankind to the moon, and we can reach to the bottom of the sea, that’s why it really kind of baffles me, that we cannot end wars and bring peace.” And, “I’m calling out, to the whole wide world, we’re gonna scream and shout, that we want peace.  To say the least!”

Emma McCune

Initially , after hearing this song I wanted more.  And as it would be, the next video that I opened was EMMA, live at Mandela’s birthday in Hyde Park, London, 2008.  OK, so this video just blasted my heart right open!  Truly, I was on my knees in tears of excitement, compassion and love.  So many feelings rushed through me.  There are children in need, RIGHT NOW.  And Emmanuel Jal made mention that he was a child soldier and almost ate a dead comrade at the hardest time of his life.  What?  Wow.  “What is going on here?” I wondered.  Then he goes into the most beautiful song about his “angel,” a woman named Emma McCune.  An angel that rescued him.  “What would I be if Emma never rescued me?  Another starving refuge.”  “I stand her because someone cared.  I stand here because someone dared!”

The energy of this video: the people, the music, the colors, the way they danced and moved STILL moves me to tears every time I watch it!  We have the potential to care and to serve.  Our potential is so vast, so great.  We don’t know how something as simple as even a smile can change someone’s day for the better.  At the end of the video Emmanuel Jal encourages, “Go save the life of a child.  Bless you!”

So then I find Emmanuel Jal’s websites:  We-Want-Peace.com/ and Gua-Africa.com

After that I purchased so many of his songs on I-tunes and I also bought his audio book about his entire life story.  THIS book is a must read.  Please check it out and know this story!

I and now I am so grateful to say that Kauai Yoga And Fitness is donating, financially and with prayers and yoga postures, for Gua-Africa.  (More to come soon on this soon.)

Please go on my journey and watch the 2 videos below, check out the 2 websites above, and read Emmanuel’s book, “War Child:  A Child Soldier’s Story (Unabridged).”
